Quick Start

Video Tagger is a local-first desktop app for macOS that cleans up filenames, fetches movie & TV metadata, and writes Plex / Jellyfin / Kodi / Emby-compatible sidecar files next to your videos.

Get your movie & TV library organized in minutes.
  1. 1. Install Video Tagger

Download the app for macOS and move it to your Applications folder. Windows is on the roadmap — join the waitlist to be notified.

  2. 2. Open your library folder

Click Add folder and choose the directory that contains your movies or TV shows. Video Tagger scans locally — nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3. Add your TMDB API key

Go to Settings and paste a free personal API key from themoviedb.org. The key is stored on your Mac; we never see it.

  4. 4. Match your titles

Select the files you want to tag and click Fetch metadata. Video Tagger searches TMDB and shows a list of likely matches. Pick the correct one for each file.

  5. 5. Preview before applying

Review the new filenames, poster, fanart, and .nfo sidecar file. If anything looks wrong, change the match or skip the file.

  6. 6. Apply and check your files

Click Apply. Video Tagger renames the files and writes the sidecar files right next to your videos. Open the folder in Finder to confirm.

  7. 7. Refresh your media server

In Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, or Emby, refresh the library for the folder. The server will pick up the metadata, artwork, and clean filenames automatically.
