Plex & Jellyfin Metadata Sidecars

Video Tagger is a local-first desktop app for macOS that cleans up filenames, fetches movie & TV metadata, and writes Plex / Jellyfin / Kodi / Emby-compatible sidecar files next to your videos.

Make your media server recognize every title, poster, and episode.

Video Tagger writes the sidecar files that Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, and Emby read when scanning a library. You stay in control: pick the folder, choose the matches, and apply changes locally.

Why use sidecars

Media servers can identify files from online databases, but mismatches are common — especially for foreign titles, alternate cuts, or TV specials. Local sidecars guarantee that Plex or Jellyfin shows the exact metadata you selected.

How it works

  1. Select the folder you want to tag.
  2. Match each file to a TMDB entry.
  3. Choose the compatibility profile for Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, or Emby.
  4. Apply and refresh the library in your media server.
