Batch Rename Movies & TV Shows

Video Tagger is a local-first desktop app for macOS that cleans up filenames, fetches movie & TV metadata, and writes Plex / Jellyfin / Kodi / Emby-compatible sidecar files next to your videos.

Clean up hundreds of filenames without losing the original names.

Video Tagger renames files in batches using metadata matches from TMDB. Before anything is changed, you see a full preview. After applying, a persistent undo record lets you revert single files or the entire batch.

What you can rename

How the batch rename works

  1. Select the files or folders you want to clean up.
  2. Match them to TMDB titles.
  3. Pick a naming template (Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, Emby, or custom).
  4. Preview every new filename in the app.
  5. Apply the rename. Sidecar files are created at the same time.

Safe to experiment

Every batch apply is recorded. You can undo immediately or weeks later — even after restarting the app. Original filenames are restored exactly as they were.
